Finally I Married My Girlfriend in the United States

Few years back, I came to the USA for my master’s. I’m from Hyderabad, I came from a normal middle-class family. During my bachelor’s itself, I fell in love with a girl. We were so happy together. She also came to the USA for her master’s, different university but we managed to meet whenever possible. Life was good that time. But you know, in India, caste matters a lot.

Her parents somehow found out about our relationship. They got so angry. They called her back to India immediately, saying they would not let her marry someone from a lower caste. They gave her all kinds of emotional pressure. She was so broken. They even said they will stop funding her education if she doesn’t come back. But she didn’t listen. She stayed back.

It was a very tough time. She had no money, no support. I couldn’t leave her like that. We started working extra hours, whatever job we could find. We managed our fees, rent, groceries and everything. Sometimes we skipped meals just to save money. Those days were hard. But we studied like crazy because we knew we had to survive. It took years of struggle.

We finished our master’s. Got decent jobs. We got married quietly, without any big celebrations. No family from her side came. But we were happy because we had each other. Now, after some years, we are settled here. Good jobs, peaceful life. Her parents eventually spoke to her again after seeing us stable. Things are better now. We just blessed with a baby girl.

I just feel proud when I look back. We didn’t give up. Love won, not caste. Sometimes, life tests you in all ways possible. But if you stay strong for the right person, everything falls into place.
