Fell for Broke Orphan Pilot Who Took My Money And Ghosted Me

I met a boy (24) on Instagram. He DMed me saying he wanted me to make a portrait for his grandmother (I have an art page), but I refused because I don’t make paid art. I told him I was busy preparing for my entrance exam, which was true. He said he understood. He texted later asking about my preparation, and we started talking. I instantly felt a connection with him. He is a pilot extremely handsome, very polite, and well mannered. He seemed like the perfect guy.

He then confessed that he liked me and wanted something serious. He said he wasn’t looking for time pass and wanted to date only to marry. He’s had a very difficult past: his mother died in a car crash after he made some adjustments to her car, and his father blamed him for her death, which made him severely depressed. A few months later, he was diagnosed with stage 3 basal cell melanoma. He went through chemo and all. He recovered a couple of years later and was doing fine, but still had to take depression meds sometimes (this is all he told me about his past).

Fast forward to January we both got serious about the relationship. I could really envision my future with him. I even told my parents about him, and he told his dad. He was so sweet in the beginning made good morning notes for me and was very caring. But as time passed, he started being distant. When I asked him about it, he said he was struggling financially because he had to pay a penalty for breaking something on the plane.

He had to pay 1 lakh and didn’t have much savings due to student loans. He paid the penalty, but it left him in a tight financial spot he had no money left at all. He told me his father was asking him to return his debt and was mentally torturing him. He asked me for help, so I gave him 5,000 (that’s all I had because I’m an unemployed student right now). But later, he started telling me things like he hadn’t eaten because he had no money, so I sent him some more.

Then he suddenly stopped texting me. Days later, when I confronted him, he gave me shocking news that his father had passed away. I felt so sorry for him. I tried calling and texting him multiple times, but he only replied days later, saying he was starving because he had no money at all. I asked him to take help from his relatives, but he said they were all assholes and just made fun of him for not having money.

So I took out all of my savings and transferred them to him because I felt too bad for him. Once he got the money, he stopped texting again and wouldn’t answer my calls. And just today, out of nowhere, he posted a story sitting on a beach in some foreign country with a girl beside him. I feel so stupid and don’t even know what’s true anymore.
