My Sister treated my mother as maid in United States

My sister lives in Florida with her husband. They both work in IT and earn well. Every few months, they ask my 62 years old mom to come stay with them. They say it’s for a visit, but it’s not. As soon as she reaches, they make her do everything: cooking, cleaning, taking care of their kids, doing laundry, even serving food to their friends when they come over. She doesn’t get to rest. She’s not treated like a guest. She’s treated like a maid. She wakes up early, works all day, and goes to bed tired and sad. No one says thank you.

No one asks if she’s okay. They just expect her to do everything like it’s her duty. My sister enjoys her weekends and her job while my mom struggles alone in a house that doesn’t feel like home. It’s painful to see her being used like this by her own daughter. Then one day, my mom got sick. Fever, weakness, and body pain. She couldn’t get out of bed. Do you think they cared? No. They didn’t even take her to a doctor. They left her alone with some medicine and went to work like nothing happened. My mom cried on a video call with me.

She said she felt like a burden, like no one loved her anymore. She later spoke to other Indian moms in Florida and found out many are going through the same thing. Their children bring them to the US, not out of love, but to use them for free help. They cook, clean, and raise grand kids while their own health gets worse. This is not family. This is abuse. Please, don’t do this to your parents. They gave you everything. They didn’t raise you to become cold and selfish. One day, they won’t be around. And all you’ll have is guilt. Show them love. Respect them. Let them rest. They are not your servants. They are your parents.
