Maybe this isn’t exactly a confession, but I’m honestly frustrated with all these Telugu NRI Instagram pages and channels. I came to the USA 10 years ago, and back then I never saw this kind of content being posted. I think at the time Covid or even before a couple of NRI pages started up. At first, they were really good.
They used to share genuine updates about visas, job opportunities, student life, and some lighthearted comedy reels about NRI experiences. I really liked those healthy memes and appreciated the hard work behind them. But then, after seeing the popularity of those few pages, more and more pages started popping up. Eventually, it became countless.
Honestly, it was fine as long as they stuck to sharing useful or funny NRI-related content. But in the last two years, all of these pages including the original ones have turned nasty. That’s really the right word. Now, most of the content is just random and unnecessary. party videos, movie promotions, DJ nights, festival celebrations etc. They keep spreading these videos to a large audience.
Then, when a couple of Americans see them and tweet something negative, these same meme pages grab that tweet, attach a random Telugu comedy clip, and post it back with captions like, emantaaru friends? Like seriously, WTF? You people are the ones promoting and spreading this content in the first place, and then you come back acting all self-righteous. Who’s the real fool here?
The worst part is when someone passes away. The moment these pages hear about it, they immediately post the photos and share them everywhere. I honestly don’t know what benefit they get from doing that. They’re the ones promoting events, and then they’re also the ones saying, “Because of these events, Americans look down on us.”
Sometimes they even dig up old viral photos from years ago (like when someone wore a lungi to Walmart) and reshare them just to spread negativity about Indians again. Please, guys-I know you’re spending a lot of time on this, and yes, you’re trying to make money. But at least don’t share unnecessary, shitty stuff. By the way, I’m not even talking about the GRWM or those other body showing NRI reels, because mentioning that is just pointless.
