So here’s what happened. Me and my best friend created a fake Instagram account just to prank one of my guy friends. We wanted it to look super real, so we uploaded pictures, filled out the bio we literally put in hours just to make it believable. The guy accepted the request, followed back, and we started chatting. He even asked for pictures, but I said I wasn’t comfortable sharing them on the first day classic move. Turns out, he wasn’t all that interested, so we thought of ditching the account.
But for fun, we posted a photo of a random girl and captioned it as if it was her birthday. This is where things spiraled. He saw the story, asked for birthday pics to post, and I somehow managed to send some. Не actually posted the story mission kind of accomplished, right? But then two of his friends sent requests. One of them (let’s call him Friend 1) started chatting. A lot. He even wished me a belated birthday and started sharing his daily routine, his life struggles, everything.
Like, bro started trauma dumping to a fake profile! He was acting genuinely sweet and texting me every day. Then one day, out of nowhere, he video called me. I freaked out and didn’t answer. To cover it up, he said his dad grabbed the phone and the call happened by mistake smooth, right? I started wondering: does this guy have feelings for my fake identity? So I straight up told him I’m not looking for a relationship and if he has any feelings, he should drop the idea now. But honestly? If the girl on the fake ID was real, I could totally see them as a couple.
He’s THAT cute and genuine. Meanwhile, Friend 2 also messaged me, but he was more like an investigator trying to find out if the account was fake. I managed to convince him it was real, and he even admitted he thought it was fake but now believes it’s not. Turns out, Friend 1 knew Friend 2 was messaging me these boys were literally together, plotting and double checking my identity while I was out here catfishing like a pro.
Now the problem is… what started as a harmless prank has turned into a guy catching feelings for someone who doesn’t exist. And I feel stuck. I want to end it but have no clue how. Deactivating the ID feels like the easiest way, but part of me wonders if I should come clean. What do I even do now??
Question: Should I confess the truth and reveal my real identity?
Option 1: Naah, let it die with the account
Option 2: Yes, it’s time to face the consequences
Let him have closure and tell him the truth before deactivating.
