My Partner Hit Me When I Confronted Him

A year ago, I met this guy. We were both looking for a life partner, and things seemed to fall into place. He started talking about marriage, first to his family and friends, and then with mine. He even told people in our social circle that we were getting married. I was fully invested, mentally, emotionally, and financially, more than him, I now realize. Then, one day, I found out he was involved with another woman. He admitted it, and despite my hurt, I decided to give him another chance. But later, it happened again.

This time, it was someone else. When I confronted him, he turned into a completely different person, abusive, cruel, and even hit me. He insulted my caste and broke every ounce of trust I had left. What hurts most is the thought of why. Why would he start all this talk about marriage, involve both families, and make me believe he was serious if he wasn’t? If he wanted to live a free life, why go through all this drama?

As things fell apart, I discovered more lies. He told me his mother was an IAS officer, his father owned a luxury car and farms, and his sister lived abroad. He even made up a story about selling a flat to save his sister from a car accident case. None of it was true. He kept adding these lies over time, stories I never even asked for. I still don’t understand why he felt the need to make up so much. When I confronted him, he stooped even lower.

He tried to ruin my reputation at work, spreading lies that I had taken commissions from vendors or partied on sick leave. The reality? Those so-called “sick leave parties” were his own birthday celebrations, where I was actually sick. Even my office had the medical reports. I hosted his friends, served 20-25 people, and even gave him gifts. And right after that, he betrayed me again. And the biggest question of all: Why lie, cheat, and hurt someone who never asked for anything but honesty?

Question: Does he have some kind of psychological issue? Is he just pretending to be someone he’s not, desperate to belong to a world he doesn’t fit into?

1: Yes
2: No
